Gov. Ron DeSantis is making another power grab. Late in the extended legislative session, the Republican supermajority in the state legislature expanded the authority of the governor’s office of policy and budget.
You catch more flies (and get more financial help) with honey than vinegar. That was the case at the Wilton Manors City Commission meeting on July 8.
As we approach the height of storm season, concerns about sewage overflow begin to surface. But high-volume spikes are just one worry. The city’s underground infrastructure needs millions of dollars in work.
A staffing crisis led to an overdue overhaul of pay and benefits in the police department. A brewing personnel shortage of regular city staff led to a refreshed compensation structure. While health insurance costs held stable, other insurance costs jumped.
Leigh Ann Henderson is woven into the fabric of Wilton Manors. The city manager has been with the city for 25 years in one capacity or another. While her work is appreciated here, she recently got some serious love from her contemporaries.
In a recent story about parking, The Gazette wrote: “Parking spaces in Wilton Manors are somewhat scarce and, unless you’re at the Shoppes of Wilton Manors by 4 p.m., rarely free.”

Call it a Stonewall Pride miracle! The iconic Rainbow Manatee statue has been returned.
Wilton Manors’ slogan is “Life’s Just Better Here,” and the city’s residents seem to agree.
